I will say, that the last RS4 was an allaroung better vehicle than the same year M3. 4WD adds to that, but there is also the styling, and that RS4 amazing V8, one of the best engines of all time. I am a HUGE M3/M5 and RS4 enthusiast, and I now think that Audi made a huge error by slimming its engine down. I n ow like the M3 better, because of its engine/trans.

From InsideLine- "The erroneous information provided by Chevrolet yesterday was today contradicted by John Lauckner, GM's VP for Global Program Management, who says that the 1.4-liter gasoline engine does in fact send whatever surplus power it makes to the lithium-ion battery. The gas engine though will never come close to recharging the battery to its operational maximum." GM can't get their story straight. Bunch of buffoons.

(plus the Merc C63 AMG), and guess which one they'd chose. They did a timed lap where the BMW was significantly faster. Since Audi has no "current" RS4 in production, you have to assume that they are marketing it as an alternative to the 335i, but lets be honest, if you want a new, fast German saloon in that price range, why overlook an M3? Or if your buying used, same money will buy you a V10 M5 in good nick.

And does the "current" RS4 engine match the new M3 engine? If you want to compare models relitive to their age, take the old RS4 versus the E46. The M3 beat it in absolutely everything other than in a drag race, although this is entirely dependant of the drivers ability. Now, take the new one. Power output - Same. Peak RPM - Better in the M3. Torque - Better in the M3. The BMWs 0-62 comes in at 4.3 seconds, may I add without 4WD. BBC's Top Gear did a program featuring these two cars...
